Online Servers

Online servers work much like other servers, but focus on information and websites that are exclusive to the internet. They can be dedicated servers which are controlled by one company, or they can be a shared server that has many different clients on the same computer. It depends on the amount of usage that will determine the best one.

Dedicated online servers can handle more customization but has to be purchased and maintained which can be difficult for most people. It does allow for easy upgrades and improvements if there is a knowledgeable staff on hand. Many large companies own and maintain their own dedicated servers.

Most online servers are shared between multiple users. This allows the owners of domains and sites to concentrate more on the content of the site and the workings of the business. All the server maintenance is done where the server is located by a system administrator. This allows anyone to store information on the World Wide Web, no matter where they are in relation to the physical server.
