Windows Server

The Windows server is designed with the same kernel as other Windows operating systems so it is very useful for Windows based applications and hardware. Since it is written in the same code as other computers it shares their functionality and safety features. The newest version is optimized for Windows Vista.

A windows server can still be used by most computers that are not running windows applications. It is still a very functional and cross platform unit that even works with apple computers. It operates off of the Windows NT 6.0 kernel. Windows NT is a family of operating systems that was intended to be very similar to UNIX in functionality, although the program is not open source.

A Windows server is designed to be used with processors that are very different architecturally. It can use Intel, AMD and other company’s processors very effectively. The NT family has been around since 1993 and has undergone many upgrades, developments and rewrites to improve its power.
